Please help to identify these drop spindles
Well, I did something I said I'd never do, buy someone else's project. But I fell in love with this sweet 1963 GMC 1000 truck. The PO did most of the suspension work, air all around, and drop spindles up front, it'll lay the frame currently. I'm trying to get some things identified for replacement ball joints, swapping over to some 6 lug rotors, and steering needs, but cannot identify these drop spindles.
The spindles appear to be 2-3" drop spindles Both have "SFA" cast into them the Driver side has GM87L the Passenger side has GM87R The rotor on the spindle has several things cast into it; Min thick 1.215 K22 3968998 (I think) Do these look familiar to anyone? I'm guessing that the "GM87" cast into the spindle may mean that it takes the 73-87 ball joints and steering? Last edited by St Cloud Rustoms; 01-31-2019 at 12:34 PM. |

Re: Please help to identify these drop spindles
They're visible but very LARGE. It makes them difficult to distinguish.

I've looked all over and can't find any markings in the typical spots that I see from CPP or ECE spindles. The "eBay" spindles your reference, any drawbacks or negative issues with them? |

Re: Please help to identify these drop spindles
I have no experience with Ebay spindles...the only thing I'm going on is your pic looked very similar to the generic ones sold on ebay....

Re: Please help to identify these drop spindles
When I went to go look at the truck, there was no steering. The PO's dad said he would come up with something to get it onto the trailer... When I came back a few days later with the trailer, that's what was on there. I'm pretty sure it was his first time using a welder.
What, you don't think that'd hold up going 80 down the highway ? :-D |
