Re: shock hardware HELP
I have never seen a bolt on with a 1/2'' shaft. I have seen these though. But you have to weld them.
https://www.foothilloffroad.com/susp...t-3-p1584.html The only other thing is using a 1/2'' grade 8 bolt |

Re: shock hardware HELP
My local parts house has them. They usually come with new shocks when you buy them.

I also seem to remember that my new shocks came with them.

Re: shock hardware HELP
Well, What happens is they get lost during rebuild or don't come with Bilsteins or like I did last week the top front shock mount torque spec is 140 lbs and I stripped one getting to spec .

Re: shock hardware HELP
Grade 8 is a poor choice for this application. They are too hard and will snap in two with side loads. Grade 5 fine threaded is a better choice if you can't fine the proper bolt. I know NAPA has them.

Re: shock hardware HELP
If a shock absorber breaks a Grade 8 bolt, you've got a whole lot of other issues going on

Re: shock hardware HELP
My dad used them all over our trucks.
Cab struts in a squarebody pre runner. However I'm not really a fan as they make nasty cracks over time. Really prefer them like these.

Re: shock hardware HELP
What shocks are you trying to fit onto this truck? Part Number and brand please...
I have never seen a 1/2" top mount shock for one of these trucks... The aftermarket ones from QA1....which include the mount brackets etc are half inch but fit only the QA1 shocks...and require the chassis to be drilled etc... All standard replacement shocks and standard style support brackets I have ever used have 5/8" holes....

Re: shock hardware HELP
Grab yourself some 13 MM grade 8 bolts and nuts...these are approx 1/64 larger than the nominal 1/2" bolt diameter...
13 mm measure 0.51181102362 or 0 33/64 over 32/64 which is 1/2"... Hope this helps you out...

Re: shock hardware HELP
Ok....13mm shank diameter bolts are a special aircraft size and very difficult to obtain...normal supply houses dont carry them.
Perhaps I should have made that more apparent in my response....apologies... I can see from your pics you are concerned about the excess clearance between the standard half inch bolt shank diameter and the inside diameter of the lower shock mount tube.... Speedway Motors has a stud that has a 5/8" shank diameter...you could grab two and have a local machine shop turn the 5/8" shank down to precisely fit your shock tube inner diameter.. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speed...Bolt,5485.html Or...maybe go to a local auto parts shop and ask for a standard front shock and check the clearance of that lower mount tube on the 1/2" bolt.. It is highly likely the new shock you have has a defective sized inner tube...as these shocks usually take a standard 1/2" grade bolt.... If you find the auto parts store shock also has excessive clearance you may have to either accept the dimension or shim the tube diameter down.... These lower mount tubes are usually a little "loose" when the bolt goes thru. They use a crush style method to lock the tube against the bolt meaning when you tighten the bolt with the washers in place against the tube ends....remember, these are trucks not race cars... You could use a different style of shock end that uses a Heim (coli over) style spherical bearing instead of the rubber bush style, however, these systems are usually reserved for high performance applications or complex special builds.... As they lack any "cushion" in their action, Heim style ends should be converted to double shear mounting to reduce flex and possible tear out of the bolt thru the A-arm.
