4L80E - what do I need to salvage from a donor truck?

I have a 92 GMC 2500, with a 454 and 4L80E. I plan to pull both and put them into my 81 (which already has a 454, and a TH350). What do I need to keep out of the 92 before I scrap it?

I'll be using an aftermarket controller. As I understand it, I can use the stock shift linkage in the 81 to make the 4L80 work. I'd assume there's a transmission cooler on the 92 (I'm not looking at it right now and it's too cold to do anything outside anyway). Can I use that? Is there anything else I should have?

The motor should swap over pretty easily, I'm not too worried about that.

Drive shaft, transmission support + mount, any electric connector that plugs into the 4L80E, any vacuum gizmo plus pipe/hoses.

Better to have and not need then find out there is some difference between your TH350 and the 4L80E.

Pull the junction block from the 92 and all associated wires. Might make connecting the electric gizmos from the new motor easier.

IIRC from my many trips to the local Pull-a-part, there are several weather sealed fuse holders and relays on the 92 that might be useful for future additions to the 81.

Might double check things like vacuum pots for the AC system. Might be the same.

For that matter, a seat swap?

Good call on the driveshaft. I guess the easy answer is, everything that's attached to the transmission should come out.

The motor should be a lot simpler. I don't think I'll need anything electrical off it, just the motor itself and the accessories. I don't plan on reusing any of the stock fuel or ignition systems.

I thought about swapping seats too. I already have an 88-94 bench in the 81, but the 92 has buckets. I'm not sure I want high back buckets in a regular cab truck though, and the interior looks like someone spilled coffee inside it with a fire hose.

I bent up my own shift rod for my 4L80E. It works with the stock column. Your stand alone controller will have all the wiring needed. If the 92 as its own trans cooler I would salvage that if you can. There's some info in my build if you want. Or PM me.

I had a look at your thread. Looks like you're doing a lot of the things I've done, or want to do. I'm running a Sniper as well. Right now I'm using whatever distributor was on the motor, but I want to change that out for the Holley one that talks to the Sniper. With a 19 gallon tank and a big block I figure I might as well do everything I can to help get a little better mileage. Funny you went Dakota Digital too - that's what I might end up doing. It's a lot of money, but so is converting the speedo signal from electric to mechanical.

Hopefully it gets warm here soon. I'd like to put a few more miles on the 92 just to make sure everything's good, and then start ripping it apart. I want everything in by April 1. Not sure if that's a deadline I can hit or not. Probably not.

Yeah, I hadn't planned on all of this but its always one thing after another and you keep replacing/upgrading stuff as you go. Im pretty happy with everything so far. Lots of wiring to make everything work together but Im hoping it makes this old turd reliable and fun to drive. Let me know if you need help with anything.
