Dang, Toyo M-55 - 255x85r16 are expen$ive, anyone running them?
I really like the tires but $2300 ish bucks delivered plus mount and balance I’m sure they’ll be every bit of $2500 bucks.
I’m just not sure why they are so darn expensive, trade war maybe? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-New-Toyo-...&ul_noapp=true |

Japanese company and Chinese made tires... Guangzhou, China. Not sure if the Georgia facility is in operation now.
As for the trade war... China has been waging a quiet trade war with us for more than 30 years. The gravy train was eventually going to stop. Now that it has Joe Q public is finally noticing. I run Michlein Defender M/S LTX265/75R16 Load Range E on most of my trucks. They make tires in the US/Canada and Europe. Excellent snow and everything else on the road traction. Dirt and paved roads are no problem. Even the "not a town maintained road" over Ellesworth isn't an issue. They don't rattle the fillings out of my head and deafen me at 80mph. A set of four is right around $1,000 mounted and balanced. Are you going offroad or driving a lot in super muddy conditions?

I went with the 255/85/R16 Cooper Discover ST MAXX on my Suburban purchased from a local tire shop. Not cheap, but a long LONG ways from $2300.
I've been ecstatic with the performance so far over 2+ years and approximately 15K miles. Quiet on the highway, good wear characteristics so far and excellent in snow and ice. All that I want from a tire. I sure hope the price from 2016 hasn't changed that much.

Re: Dang, Toyo M-55 - 255x85r16 are expen$ive, anyone running them?
I briefly considered the dually possibility when I read your initial post, but after doing the math (over $400/tire with mounting-balancing?) I thought I'd join in with my experience with the Coopers. Just for the record, four Disco ST-Maxx's back in 2016 from my local shop came to just over $900. I have not asked for a more recent quote, and I sure hope it isn't anywhere near what you expect to spend. I really like the 255/85 tire size, and my 99 Dodge Ram 2500 needs new tires this spring.

We run the Toyo M55, one thing about them is they will outlast any other tire out there and you can regroove them once they are worn down as well so you get even more life out of them.
The downside of them is they are not the best on snow and ice unless you stud them when they're new, which helps |

Thanks guys for all the tips and suggestions! I may have to wait a bit, dropped off a 383 engine in Houston to be gone thru...I知 sure that will take 3000 bucks or more out of the truck fund

I've been happy with the highway tread Cooper's on my 4runner, even in the Maine woods and winter. The AT tires are one of the more common ones both here in Maine and where I grew up in the mountains in NY - was always impressed on other folks trucks. Once I have another actual offroad SUV I'll be going with them as well. Also, I see you share time Texas/Maine - nice to see that state in someone elses profile! |
