Np 205 difference ??

Hey guys thinking of changing my 72 over to automatic since the doner frame and drivetrain is automatic... I’m still getting rid of stuff and trying to take what I need and sell/scrap the rest. Will the 8 bolt racetrack pattern from my 3 speed or 4 speed 205s fit the auto 350 turbo adapter and splines ?? is it just a matter of changing the sleeves between the trans/transfer as long as adapter is same bolt pattern... I’m pretty sure all of mine are big 10 spline transfer input shaft. Thanks

Both chassis and drivetrain components are 1972

yes the fig 8 is the same .

no its NOT a direct swap .

stick shift was 10 spline and auto was 27 spline if th350 or 32 spline if th400 later on in the trucks .

but good news is today they make special sleeves to do this swap as long as you have or buy the adapter needed to mate the t-case to the trans your using .

Thanks sweetk30 !! I have both complete setups. I just know my transfer case is good but not sure about the doner... Are both T cases 10 spline ? If so I can use the 32 to 10 coupler. Im gonna build the turbo 350 anyway..

no not the same . i told you th350 = 27 spline . you must have missed it is all .

but they make special 10/27 spline sleeves .

np205 is stupid easy to rebuild . i never opened a t-case in my life and i did my first np205 and it was easy with internet build threads . i even wrote one my self with step by step pics years ago .

Oh ok ! I was mistaken... I thought you were referring to the Transmission tail shaft side of the couplers.. I will just plan to swap and go through the whole auto setup

trans is 10 or 27 spline . they didnt do 10 spline in auto .

so you need 27 spline on both or special sleeve .

I'd suggest the OP get the Advance adaptrs conversion guide. You can ask them to send it or grab a pdf. I'm not sure it's clear from the above posts, but you need an adaptor from the 4 bolt trans output to the TC input.

No K30s explanation was perfectly clear. Ive just never had an automatic 205 so i assumed the sleeves were different splines each end and all the 205s had the big 10 spline. Thanks to you guys for the info. I am gonna get the Advance Adapters info anyway though because that would be a good bunch of info to have in the toolbox.
