for the mounting you can use the brakets of an old grill , screw the brackets to the grill support panel and weld the grill in place! Pat

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
A few pictures I never posted apparently. A couple showing the interior and one showing my new Holley 770 street avenger. At the moment the truck gets 14mpg and runs a 13.8 in the 1/4. That's right out of the box only setting the idle. The best the Edelbrock Performer 800 ever did was 8mpg and 14.5 in the 1/4, and I had swapped jets and rods numerours times to do that good.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
Thats pretty cool, there is a guy down the road here running a 39ish chevy 1/2 ton with a 455 olds in the front and another one in the rear with the transaxles. The truck is insane and smokes all 4 tires down the quarter mile the entire way.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
Hey everyone! Sorry for the concern. I've been lurking here ever since this truck went on the road, but never logged in on my new laptop (that's now three years old). Guess I should have checked up on this thread.
I don't take many pictures of my stuff once it's out of the shop, but here's some. First things first, a mechanic once told me this truck would never drive straight and would destroy tires due to it's design. This tire wore through on the bedside, but it still has probably 20,000 miles on it. Looks like my tape measure/surveying tool alignment did alright. I have a stepside bed for it now, so I'll make sure nothing rubs, and can dzus a fender off to change a tire vs. having to lift the whole fleet bed. The used wide white that I replaced it with threw it's tread, so the fleetside bed is in pretty bad shape now, anyways. It's also shiny now! I hated trying to scrub bugs of the PPG Flex and Flat clear, so I sprayed cheap Omni right over the old clear. It was fast, cheap, and wasn't supposed to last, but it's holding up well, and the truck needs paint anyways once the stepper bed is modified and installed. My car club plaque pretty much states without saying that the truck is static dropped. I've had more exhaust systems than I can count. Olds big blocks sound kind of funny, but I've finally settled on this setup. It's loud, but it tames down nicely at a flat RPM. Last but not least, a great watermarked picture that turned up on the web from a random photographer that I never knew he took. This is on a highway somewhere around Fargo, ND, over 500 miles from home. It really is a nice highway driver. It won't be out this year, but this winter I might drive it into the shop and re-vamp the bed. First, I have to get this ex-rust-bucket out of there.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
I cannot believe all these years of admiring your truck's outer look and missed what was lurking inside. Very cool ride for sure. Glad you are still at it.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
I love the transformation this truck has had.
Im doing the same but with a old Toyota. I just got my basic chassis done a couple weeks ago, Just have to figure out the rear springs/suspension. |

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster
Oh crazy! That Toyota will be wild! What engine and transaxle is that? It's hard to tell from the pictures.

I have managed a little forward movement, Hoping for more this spring. If anyone is interested in pictures I can start a thread o not to sully yours. One question though, Your shifter, do you like it? I still have yet to choose one. I have been looking at the sidewinder since I can make the gate either way. |
