They aren't as bad as a 2 1/2 ton, but still kind of loud. Tinnitus is no fun. Ideal solution would be an intercom with headsets.

The M934 isn't too bad. Much quieter than the deuce's especially the ones with the C turbo.
My M925A2 has the newer 8.3 Cummins and is even quieter. Also I can run with the windows up in warm temps because it has a Red Dot air conditioner installed!

I've driven the deuces off highway quite a bit in the army. But I only road marched one once. It started raining real bad. It got so loud in that thing. Oh, and the wiper on the driver side went out. If I remember it was an air pressured wiper setup. My TC wouldn't let me pull over and try to fix it. I remember all the maintenance 5ton drivers wore ear protection. But the grunts in the line units driving the deuces just toughed it out and went deaf. Because you never knew when you were going to get yanked and put behind the wheel. That's why the army is for the young guys! Oh, and troops are the worst cargo. You should hear them b ithc, every little bump. If you're a bad driver you're in for some $hit when you stop.

The 5 tons have the electric wipers.
I have an electric kit I want to install in one of the deuces.
Been more than a few times I worked the drivers side manually when it stopped working. In the pic below I ran the wipers in an effort to see in a snow storm at -4 degrees temp. It got so cold that day I stopped after moisture in the air lines froze and locked the brakes up and I had to get a heater to thaw them out on the side of the road.

My 1970 XM818 with a Cummins has electric wipers. Bought it from the government that way.

I remember in the winter in Germany cold starting tracked vehicles was a detail like guard duty. A complete pain in the butt. Each company had a man staring the big diesels at the motor pool to keep them warm 24/7, no block heaters. I mostly drove a quarter ton, got hot quick and you could dry your boots in a half hour, those things had hurricane fans. Glad you still have your feet! It was worse for the deuce drivers in the combat trains. They got screwed because they couldn't sit idling because of heat signature. The inside of a cold deuce beats laying in a hasty fighting position all day though!

I did suffer minor effects from frostbite that trip and still have problems with my feet to this day.

if you pull the muffler behind the safety cage and straight pipe it yes . . . but you uncork them for power then .
