seat/ sholder belts? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This 72 has belts I realy don't trust a whole lot. The 72's had a sholder belt option and I noticwe a small plug in the rear wall where one might install a belt ancor. Anyone out there ever put sholder belts in a 67-72? What's behind that plug?

Behind the plastic plug you'll find a threaded hole. Don't worry about a nut falling out, it's welded on or something like that. Anyway, I've used S-10 shoulder belts and these work well. The only drawback is they aren't long enough for larger people. I'm trying to figure out a way to raise the base up to accomodate them. Some have tried Juliano's or Southernrods.com (probably the exact same belt), but I think they ran into the same problem.

Don't curse me out but I got mine at a junk yard out of a ford ranger (the old body style) and they fit perfect, even the middle belt.

I paid too much for a set from Brothers.com. They are nice, though, and bolted right in.

I used a blazer as well. fit well but as brad said the female pieces are too short for bigger folks and not easy to use much either way. They work well but tough on the initial buckle for newbies.

Dont even try southernrods! i called them they said it'd work, then it got sent and too dang short to even fudge it. I sent em back and they docked me 25 bucks or something for a restocking fee plus i had to pay shipping back to them, GRRR.
Brad if you figure out a setup for the female pieces let me know!
My belts are outa a 85ish and have the bolt in the rear of the retractor on the floor. good luck

i used a flat piece of steel stock, about 2" wide x 5.5 long, drilled holes in either end for the bolts,and attached the female buckle end to the flat stock. it gave me plenty of room to insert in seat crease to attach male end as usual.the only drawback is that the pivot point at the shoulder pillar is down too low and it will seem like it binds you to your seat!very sturdy though w/ the added length supplied by the flat stock steel,it's as sturdy as the factory floor mounting position.

Fords do suck but the ranger helped me out to
i got the weather striping out of one for free and it fir perfect i just
had to cut it and the middle seat belt. but y the fck do u want a seat belt .

I bought mine at the LA Roadster show a couple of years ago from one of the vendors. They said would be no problem. However, when I installed them, they don't want to retract. I called them and they said "Oh, do you still have the gas tank in the cab? You'll have to remove it and then stand them straight up." Just another one of those don't fit situations!

down behind your seat are the seat belt holes(factory)w/a nut welded to the under side.take a flat piece of .125" thick plate steel, cut it down to roughly 2" wide x 5.5 or 6" long ,drill a 43/64" diam.hole for the bolts to go through,and place in your vice and bend the plate steel accordingly to lay flat against your floorpan,put a bend approx. 1"above the bolt hole to put the flat stock steel on a curve towards the back of your seat.the other end of the flat stock,mount your female end of your seatbelt to the flat steel, weasel the head of the female end in between the crack of the seat back and the seat bottom.all this does is doing is giving you extra length to move your seat forward and back and still have enough of the female end to buckle up to.use grade 8 bolts w/locking nuts and large washers.i used 5/8 bolts all around,and everything worked fine.sorry, no pic.though.

You know, I have a friend who amongst other things, has driven stockers, draged mopars, wound out sports cars, and when he gets in my car, or truck now, he goes for the seat belts, no mater where we go. He had a baaad experience once, and was hit head on in a vw bug when he was 17. He was drunk, and he was going the wrong way on a one way road, but had the presence of mind to drop down and kiss the radio. Maybe saved his life, I don't know. If you never had an accident, you probably would never need them but this is not a perfect world.

I bought some shoulder belts and a center belt, but I don't remeber who from. They were new and cost a bunch. They are worth it, seat belts are a hassle until you need them. A girl from work did a minor roll in her pickup, almost no body damage, and died from her body smashing about the cab. I always wear mine without appology.

Since you are doing this for safety purposes, never skimp. I bought some anchor plates from julianos to put under the floor pan. Your new retractors bolt to these (after drilling through the floor) and, when (not if) you get in a fender bender, the plate spreads the load and greatly reduces the chance of the belts completely pulling out of the metal. Julianos plates are designed with rolled edges, which again help spread the load without any sharp points, which will "tear" much quicker under a heavy load.

DO IT RIGHT! or don't do it at all.

Another option for seat belts is to do what I did. I bought a set of new take-out seats from a 2001 Silverado which has the seat belts in the seat. Killed two birds with one stone on that one. Got the shoulder belts and a much much better seat.

I also bought from Brother's, but compared to other places, the price seemed reasonable. I caught them in last year's "summer sale" flyer. They were something like $50 off their regular price. It was a cheap investment to lock down my 5 year old daughter, who LOVES daddy's truck

But, as others have commented, they're a little short for us 'short for our weight' people. I can wear my belt but it's not the most comfortable thing in the world. If I'm wearing my coat though, were I able to get it latched, I'd be asphyxiated in minutes
