2007 Tahoe Opinion Project/No Project??
Figured I'd get some non-bias opinions here. I have a 2007 Tahoe with 238K miles on it. It runs, barely with a broken piston ring. Here's where i'd like to get some feedback. Do I make this a project and pull/replace this engine or do I sell it off to the highest bidder. This would be a DIY project to keep costs down. Let me know what you think maybe it will help me figure out what to do with this pig.
Thanks!! |

Re: 2007 Tahoe Opinion Project/No Project??
It all comes down to your mechanical abilities and eagerness to learn on your own. If this is your first major repair with these LS motors, then you’ll have a lot of time invested and in the end you might as well keep the Tahoe since the engine will be rebuilt.
If this isn’t your first rodeo, then obviously it will come down to money invested/money return. There’s always someone willing to take on a repair like this. If you can get whatever dollar amount is fair in your eyes, then let it go and use your time and money elsewhere. It’s not like you have a rare vehicle worth preserving for another 20 years.

Re: 2007 Tahoe Opinion Project/No Project??
Thanks Evrlet! Good advice. I'm leaning towards selling it. Here's my thoughts 1. displacement on demand - bad idea and dont like it. 2. I have a 66 C10 80% done, some extra cash in my pocket would definitely help. 3. I was thinking it to keep it around for my son when he turns 16 but thats 3 years away and he wants to do a 70 k10 rebuild. So this week it goes up for sale

I'm looking for a 4wd project SUV of roughly that vintage from outside the Northeastern rust belt.
I have a running and driving 2001 2500HD low miles rusted out parts truck so engine problems aren't an issue for me. I'll be in Salt Lake for work in about two weeks. Hill AFB isn't much of a trip from downtown SLC.
