Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
trying to manually fill air in my tank so i can lift it up (no battery)...but air is coming out of the bottom of the filter. is it because the check valve wont let air flow backwards...or is something else the problem?
heres the filter... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...6&postcount=12

Bypass the filter & you'll know.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
ya thats what im gonna have to do. was wondering though if its supposed to be that way or maybe filter is clogged. when i first put all this on 5 years ago i never tried to manually fill the tank.
bypassing the filter will only get air in my tank...it wont tell me if ita designed to only let air one way...?

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
That's an auto drain filter. It reaches a certain pressure it will open the drain automatically. So I would guess that you don't have enough air pressure to close the auto drain. So by pass the drain, use more air pressure or better yet put in manual air filters.
I don't think I would run auto drains on an air ride system.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
going to order this one (except the 3/8 one) since it has a manual drain

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
I really like the Accuair ones. Little pricey but they are smaller than others I have seen. I think they are made by Parker.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
i pulled my old one off yesterday and a damn nut that holds the drain was off...which is why it was spilling air oit the bowl.
i got my new one in anyways..but now im wondering. these have flow arrows that i didnt even notice on my old filter. do you mount them with the flow arrow coming from york compressor hose going to tank. or with the arrow coming from tank going towards york hose? im thinking it should be york hose flowing to filter...to tank..?

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
like this...obviously i left out fittings and the pressure switch.
the arrow is the flow on top of the filter...

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
People will disagree but.....
Air exits the compressor 'hot'. Moisture comes from the hot air cooling off. It doesn't cool off that much in the line unless the line is long enough to allow enough dwell time. It cools off in the storage area (tank). If you're going to run a water trap/filter, seems your goal is to protect the electronics @ the valve so after the tank is where it does the most work.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
bear with me..this is a quick drawing to show my lay out.
the york is under the hood...everything else is mounted in the very rear of the truck. filter tank valves pressure switches electeic compressor...is all mounted back there.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
this is the diagram i followed when doing this nearly 5 years ago. im also thinking that my tee with the loader line isnt even a check valve like its supposed to be...think its just a tee with a 1/8 hose going to the unloader on the square d. so..first thing im going to do is order the check valve with the unloader on it like this picture below..but still need to figure the arrow flows

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
If the valves are mounted to the tank, I can see where the only place the water trap could help is on the inlet line to the tank.

my main concern is the trap catching the water and oil from the york. im not an expert on how these check valves and filters work in relation to where the valves should be mounted and what not. i appreciate ur help..

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
I think you're good w/it like you have it set-up in your diagram. Makes sense on air supplied from a York so any oil/moisture is passing through a trap first.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
When the switch is off it vents the unloader line and compressor, allowing the compressor to start with no pressure. This reduces startup torque and is easier on the clutch. When the switch kicks on it closes off the unloader line. The compressor then builds pressure until it opens the check valve and begins flowing into the tank.

Re: Trying to fill tank, air escaping through filter
I see the Yorks/engine driven set-ups being better for a daily driven vehicle where someone has to air/up down constantly every time they park. For the 'limited use' type, electric comps seem to work fine w/o having to add complexity under the hood where real estate can be @ a premium.
