My 1964 C10, with 283 2bbl has been retrofitted with a "true dual" exhaust system with what looks like Cherry Bombs on each side. I really don't care for the noise, and would like to return it to bone-stock exhaust.
Did this truck originally come with the single-exhaust (two into one) pipe? Single muffler also?
If anyone knows what the original stock configuration was, please let me know.

I gonna guess and say it was built with a 2 into 1 exhaust...all you really need to do is swap out the mufflers for a set of quite ones..and itd be cheaper..unless you just want to go with 2 into 1..

Yes a 283 originally came with a single 2" exhaust. I'm not sure why you would want to restrict your engine like that. I would just replace both of your mufflers with something to meet your sound requirement. And if the tail pipes do not go all the way to the rear of the truck, extend them so that they do. That will help reduce the noise in the cab.

Great advice everyone, and thanks for the drawings! Exactly what I was looking for! I will probably just change out the mufflers to something more toned-down, and leave the "true-dual" pipe setup.

Here are pics of my 62' setup, came original with a 283 config (bad block though) 350 to replace, which I eventually changed out to shorty headers with duals. This was to get the truck up and running for inspections and registration which I had all the parts to begin with. Then upgraded all the exhaust items.

i just swapped out my worn out glasspacks on a true dual system. I went with Walker Dynomax 16" lenghth turbos clear out the back on my 283.. Research led me to believe they were the among the quietest of all performance mufflers. I like it, but if you're looking for "quiet as stock" they are probably not the mufflers for you. You still hear 'em but they wont leave your ears ringing after a long drive.
