Drop spindle typical problem...
Helping friend with his '65 truck project. We installed a set of dropped spindles for '73-'87 last week. Just finished up the brake lines today. Went to mount the 15x8 5 lug factory rallys and the wheels are rubbing the lower control arms.
I've read somewhere about trimming the control arms for clearance. Also read about it weakening the area around the ball joints. What is the solution with running 15 inch wheels? Absolutely want to stay with 15 wheels. Does anyone make a 2 inch dropped spindle? Just dropping the truck with spindles in front and 3 inch coils in back. No lower. Thanks for your help. |

Yes, CPP makes 2" drop modular spindles, that do not have this problem. This is why I recommend these instead of the normal 2.5" ones that most sell.
Here is with 15x8" 4.5" back space later GM factory wheels. 2" spindles will clear the arm

Re: Drop spindle typical problem...
I had to grind both my lowers to clear the 15X8 wheels. Whne I went to the smoothy wheels I got 15X7 for the front and a 225 tire and the clearance was much better.

It is a pretty simple fix to cut reliefs in the lower control arm and weld in a couple plates to re-establish the factory strength. I have done several over the years.

I ran 15 inch smoothies with Western Chassis spindles. Didn't have this issue with mine either.
