Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
Does anyone have photos of their truck on airbags aired out where the inner fenders are the limitation? I am trying to decide if I will need raised inner fenders and cowl mounted hood hinges for my setup.
Currently I am working on the frame, and the cab is no longer mounted, so I can't take any accurate measurements. I will be running PB tubular control arms, 2.5" drop spindles, and 2600 bags. I should be able to rest the control arms on the ground when aired out and I will run a 27-28" tall tire. Photos and/or measurements would be great! |

Re: Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
yep, your inners are toast if you are laying frame,
you don't have to lose the hinges or more accurately there are alternatives to the cowl hinges (That are all total junk in regards to durability and strength) We are using aftermarket billet aluminum hinges that mount in the stock location but do not need springs as they use a gas strut. Therefore we could lose the spring mount and the well the stock hinge spring needed. Last edited by Robert Haas; 03-11-2019 at 06:26 PM. |

Re: Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
Why doesn't someone market front sheet-metal like that?

Re: Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
You are going to be real close with the 27" tall tires and dropping the front on the ground. the lowers will land first. My 65 would settle down on the inner fenders resting on the tops of the tires. With the rear aired out and the rear end hitting the bed wood the a arms were just touching.

Re: Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
My old '66 at this height had about 1.5" between the tire and the inner fender with 215/75-15's that are roughly 27.7". The crossmember was around 2.5" off the ground. I had to pull a fender bolt out to keep from shredding the tire over bumps.
This one has the crossmember raised 1.5" so the lowest point is even with frame rails under the cab. These tires are 26" tall and they stick up over the fender tops.

Re: Inner Fender Limitations with Airbags
No problem! I'll have it moved out of the corner of the shop and into a normal stall in the next week or two, so it'll be more accessible if you need any measurements.
