Can't say I'll be helpful, but curious if it's a stock column. Also, is it a 3-on-the-tree conversion to a Powerglide, TH350, TH400, etc. I'm guessing that the truck is a '66, unless the reverse lights are a retro fit. If memory serves me right, neutral safety and back-up switch for a '66 were part of the steering linkage under the hood (pre-'66 trucks came sans reverse lights), if I'm wrong, I'll be quickly corrected. If you haven't looked in the FAQ section, there should be some articles that may answer your questions.

Stock 2 spd auto converted to a 3 spd auto for th400
There is a place for the switch on the column but the amall linkage is missing My 66 has the reverse lights in the fenders. Its a stepside When i bought the truck the column was missing So i had 1 made from the 2 spd |
