Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
There are no calipers back there. My guess is the Brake Shoes are frozen to the Drum. The Axle needs to be taken out first, but putting it back together can be a challenge. If you are not familiar with it, I would seek some knowledgeable help.

Nice truck.
Real nice condition. Clean Interior. But what you have there is not a C-60. You have an L-60 (LCF) (Low Cab Forward)

Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
It is possible to remove the drum without pulling the axle. There are a couple of slotted flat head screws that hold the drum to the hub. If the drum doesn't turn free, try backing off the adjusters. It could also be rusted to the hub, making it difficult for the drum to slide. That's a cool truck!

The regular Service Manual has info for not just the 10 series but 20, 30, 60, & 80. That's a good reference for exploded diagrams and procedures. For this you'll need the '63 Manual plus the '66 Supplement.

Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
update. you do need to take the axle out of the middle and there are 2 lock nuts. i sprayed wd-40 from the back and let it sit over night. hit the drum with the a big hammer and after i took the lock nuts out of the axle it freed from the pads. i cleaned everything and found out the bottom wheel cylinder is leaking. i pulled the boot back and sprayed brake cleaner and still leaking. anyone know what the proper wheel cylinder i need to order?

Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
You might want to replace both cylinders while you've got it all torn down, speaking from experience lol. Looks like a Dorman W24489 might be the one, shows it fits upper and lower positions with 15x6" brakes, has a 1.625" bore.

Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
Per GM Medium Duty parts book, looks like original GM p/n was 3772241, also Wagner p/n FD 24489. So that Dorman p/n is probably right. Supposed to be 1 5/8" bore.

Wow, very nice truck. Looks like an incredible survivor! Most of these models get butchered, nice to see an original. I have found that Rock Auto has a good selection of brake parts for medium duty trucks like ours.

Re: 66 c60 rear end brake knowledge!?
thanks guys. I ended up getting the wheel cylinders rebuilt. It was a pain trying to find the same size wheel cylinder. i put everything back together and the pads are rubbing alittle against the rotors. i think i might have moved the adjusters while putting it back together. but im not taking it back off, going to let the pads wear off a little themselves. i havent worked on something that big before. i keep bleeding the brake lines to get all the air out. thank you again guys.
