Stepside tool boxes?

Ok I bought a 68 lwb stepside and on the front step on each side has a box. Looks to be a ammo box but looking at several stepside trucks they all seem to have the exact same box. Last one I saw was on the for sale thread "Betsy."Here's mine and hers. Was this just people liking the idea or was it something dealers did?

Re: Stepside tool boxes?

I believe they are Ammo cans.

Maybe an aftermarket accessory?

Re: Stepside tool boxes?

Putting boxes on the running boards is just something people did. Those ammo cans worked out well.

I am pretty sure those are smaller than the ones on those trucks.

I have one in the garage that looks to be the same size.
