Wheel Width / 70 Stepper
What is the widest wheel I can run on my 70 Stepper ? Gonna run 5 lug steelies , currently have 15x8 for the rear and 15x6 for the front . Can I go wider on the rear ? I can get the wheels widened nearby .

Re: Wheel Width / 70 Stepper
What size tire do you want to run and how low do you want your truck?
My opinion, 15's are a waste of time and $. Makes the trucks look dated and not vintage. Especially the guys who run the 295 50 15 all the way around. If you stay with the 15" rim, a 255 70 15 looks good in the back and as tall a tire as you can get in the front. 235 75? That would be better on a 7" rim I would think though. 18's probably best choice for most tire sizes. Thrilled with the 17's on my 69. You need to verify what length rear axle housing you have. 70 was a changeover year and it could have a narrower 69 housing. I have 275 55 17 tire on 17x9 zero offset (5" backspacing) rim on my truck with the rear axle flipped for a 7" drop. Front is 235 55 17 on 17x8 zero offset rim (4.5" backspace). Front is disc converted with ECE 2 1/2" drop spindles and 2" springs for 4.5" drop. And a pic because I still had the addressed copied from the other post right above about rear tire on a stepside...

Re: Wheel Width / 70 Stepper
Zero offset and up to 9" should be good with a tire no wider than a 275. On a 15" rim the tire will be more bowed out in the section so it gets a little iffier. 255 will fit easy.

Re: Wheel Width / 70 Stepper
Lowered or stock height? You could fit a 15x10 with a 275/60/15 tire, but it may rub a bit around corners. But, since you can have them widened to order, go 9" to keep it right in the middle.
