What do you guys recommend? Gen 1 350. Motor came out yesterday and will be putting in all new lifters.

New cam? Flat tappet? You should not run new flat tappet lifters on an old cam or vice versa...

I use Lunati for everything valvetrain related on my street rigs.

You can run an old cam with new lifters as long as you re do the break in process.

Sure you can. If you wanna take a chance on a flat lobe.
For a 100 more bucks you can get a new cam.

use the GM lifters ,they cost more but worth it, and yes I have used new lifters on old cams do the break in procedure as if new cam , this is needed to get oil splash on the cam and for the new lifters to mate with cam.

I don't see much need for replacing lifters unless you replace the cam. If one is bad I would assume the other is not far behind.

I like Elgin products. Their Black Ice line is a great value for the street. $120 for both cam and lifters. This 204/214 @ .050 cam is a common upgrad and has been for years. Same as Edelbrock Performer. We have this in my kid's Jimmy motor.

Decisions-Decisions Have new Edelbrock intake and Quadrajet, an engine dress up kit from Jegs that includes oil pan, new timing chain kit, water pump, alternator, PS pump, complete master cylinder set up and new Champion radiator to put on. So engine will just about be tore down anyway----------------. At 70 years old been a long time since I have done this.

FWIW I use Melling cams and lifters and always had good luck with their products.

Although I’d agree a new cam is cheap enough you are no more likely to flatten the lobe of a used cam with new lifters than you are a brand new cam and lifters. As long as you break the new lifters in it will be fine,done this many times for decades and never an issue. In fact any engine rebuild book will tell you this practice is perfectly fine.

What are you replacing just the lifters? Is there a problem with them? That may be a better place to start.

I only use DELPHI Lifters, check eBay.

I was thinking that the one cylinder with low compression could be helped by replacing lifters. My neighbor says he has done this before etc. etc.

I very much could be wrong, but low compression is more likely to be cylinder rings or head gasket than valves. 30 years ago I did rebuilds a few times. It has been a long time. My first instinct, while dated is to look at rings and gaskets.
I am sure that many here know more. But be sure before going down a rabbit hole of endless part replacement. It is better to rebuild the whole engine once and be done with it, than to tear down the top. Then have to tear down the bottom.

Watch out for erroneous advise, my roommate is currently doing a complete front end on his 4 x 4 truck by following a shops non complete advise. Did not give him one detail and lost 2 bearing units, 2 rotors, 2 brake caliper brackets, 2 calipers, 2 hoses, a set of pads and permanently damaged rims.

A repeated theme that holds the same from multiple sources filling in all the details and steps is my way to go.
