shift rod and speedo cable
anyone have interference with headers and column shifted automatic shift rod? in gear, the rod hits the header, and at certain rpm rattles like crazy! drives my freakin nuts! tried to bend it, just a little, but rod seemed like it was happy in the same it is. can't seem to get anything behind it to dimple the header, and it hits from first to drive in different places.
also, speedo cable rattles and needle bounces around. can this be fixed with new cable? or is it the adapter? i think my adapter houseing is cracked (TH350, NP205) as it swings about 5 degrees either way. is it a common part? any clue on $$? thanks! |

I believe your cable problem sounds the same as mine...that's why I'm replacing mine. It had been bouncing around as you discribe and making noises as you drive. In fact just today it quit all together so I have no idea how fast I'm driving so I need to get 'er fixed soon. Mileage still works tho....but I'd say you'll end up with one or the other quiting shortly.

If your speedo quit showing your speed but your odometer is still working, it isn't your cable. You have a problem in the speedo head. You'll have to pull the guage to see what's wrong and if you can fix it. Otherwise you may need a new guage. Hate to tell you that just before the weekend as cables are cheaper.

Thanks for that tip. Damn it tho...I can't quite understand it as I just replaced the guage! As my other gauge the mileage quit and the speedo was working but it bounced around as I discribed with almost grinding noises. I figured it was the worn out guage when (the new one) seemed to operate without any of those systoms up until now, so now I figure it HAS to be the cable that is F#%@ing up my gauge...
