Dash brake light stays on

I've got an 89 GMC K2500 that the brake lights would stay on after you got off the pedal. You had to pull the brake pedal back to get it to shut off. I changed the brake switch under the dash and that fixed that problem. But the next time I drove it, the brake light in the dash came on. It doesn't flash, it's just on. If you engage the E brake, the light gets brighter.
Did changing the switch cause this light to go on? The brakes act perfectly fine. Just an annoying light.
Hoping for a solution here. Thanks for any help.

Re: Dash brake light stays on

My '89 behaves similarly. I just pull the brake pedal back with my toe about an 1/8" to get the brake lights to go out. I have a rear disk brake conversion so my brake light (on the dash) acts weird because of ABS but my stopping power is very good including panic stops. That's a separate issue though.

Re: Dash brake light stays on

Here are two links to threads on this topic at this board and a link to another board I post on. I have some very good threads on the other board.

You can do a search on either board of my user-name and RWAL to find many threads that should have everything you need to diagnose this problem.

Thanks ChevyTech. This is far more than I knew before.
Really appreciate it.
