I have a nice JVC CD head unit that I would like to put in my 71. But how are you guys/girls mounting them?

Of course I know there will be some cutting involved...But my 71 is already cut a little so might as well....

Any help you be appreciated.

I just cut the dash and slid her in the nice hole...

Yup! I say cut the dash with the same saw you put the speakers in the bottom of both doors with! Looks great, sounds great!

What I was wondering is what actually holds the unit in the dash? Do I need to pick up one of those metal installation box thingys.??

If your dash is already cut I think I'd do the same. Do you still have the stock speaker in the dash? If not there are 2 stock bolt hole locations (1/4" in dia. 2 1/2" apart) for the stock speaker bracket at the top of the firewall (inside) , you could fabricate a bracket in that area and attach it to the back of your head unit for additional support (in the rear) and just use the install kit that came with it. I'm just about to install a stock AM radio (sort of as a working decoy) in my truck and think I'll go with installing a nice head (C.D. player) in my glovebox later on, later Doug

You will need the sleeve that goes to the radio without it do not attempt it the results wont be pretty. Just about any radio sleeve will fit most cd players I think i have a few kickin around if you cant locate one

once awhile back a friend of mine got a sony explod and didnt have a sleeve i gave him one off a pioneer it worked but it didnt lock in where you had to have the keys to remove it but other than that it was all snug.

I am not sure if I have the sleeve for this radio or not. It was installed in my 96 Dodge Neon for a while and I think it had some sort of Plastic installation thing. But I will double check.

I will get back to you on that "1972C10". Thanks much.
