Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
I have a Strange 9in rear end with a back brace in a 1971 Chevrolet SWB C10.. I'm curious of those that have a similar rear end set up. What Pan Hard bar or track bar are you using?
What fits in other words? Last edited by Blue Rat; 06-10-2016 at 08:19 PM. |

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
Wish I could say I'm using this.. but I ordered the kit, built the wishbone, and it fits the 4link bracketry perrfect. But I just don't see how it is more stable than a diagonal link. So it sits on the shelf until my hard head can rationalize it.
They are used on 4000HP Promods and outlaw cars,, so they work. But my thick skull just can't 'see' it so ....... http://www.small-block-chevy.com/ima.../WHISHBONE.jpg Oh wow thats a huge picture,, linky linky

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
The triangulation on the wish bone (3 points) does not allow for shift. You have to also consider the effects the 4-link bars have on it. This is a sytem. Yes the balls in the heirs are free to rotate and spin but, you would have to bend the bars in order to get rear end shift. If the 4-link (or even 3-link) left/right bars were not there the rear would rotate based on the single link end. But it can't because those bars are keeping the wheelbase the same.
If the rear were to move to the passenger side keeping wheel base the same, the right wishbone link would have to get longer while the left would get shorter.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
CPP makes a 'bent' trac bar that's made for clearance on rears with diff girdles, back braces, etc. I'm using one on my '69 with a braced Moser diff cover, but the mount that comes with the CPP mounts low on the pass side trailing arm, so it's hard to get it near parallel with the axle. I ended up using the CPP bent bar with and ECE mount that looks nearly identical to what vidman has on top of his pass side trailing arm.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
I don't have a race truck by any means... Just a 1972 GMC C15, with a snotty 355 and a worked over TH350. The stock 12 bolt rear end housing with an Eaton Posi, Moser axles, and Richmond 3.73's hung on the stock coil sprung rear end.. I have a thick Moser diff cover with the cap girdles and it clears the stock panhard rod just fine. I thought it was kinda odd when I bolted it on as I had always read where cats had a prob with the bar hitting the thicker covers.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
I haven't checked mine yet. But, I don't think it is going to fit. Going to check it first. I'm doing some looking ahead of time.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
found a pic - hope this helps you Blue Rat - it might give you an idea of how far out the CPP bar kicks out.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
A long time ago, I had more obstacles behind my rearend housing, so I fabricated a track bar with a couple of bends in it to clear them (fuel pump and filter) mounted to the opposite trailing arm, similar to some of the off-road race truck bars I did back then. Fast forward 15 years, and I've since relocated the fuel pump/filter combo, but kept the track bar. Mine is similar to what CPP offers today...I would just buy that if I had to do it over now.

My Moser 12 bolt cam with a bent Panhard bar and high mount bracket. I can get pictures of it when I get home if you like.

Here is my Panhard bar. Came with the bracket that goes around the trailing arm and a new mount I welded to the frame.

Re: Panhard bar with aftermarket rearend.
In a discussion on panhard rods on another forum I learnt about the Mumford Link, probably too much for street use but could be easier to package on a trailing arm truck than a watts linkage.
