Wheel studs

So I had a stripped wheel stud, I stopped by the parts store and they gave me the ones for a 71 C10... however; the knurled section is Far smaller in diameter.

Everything I see online says the new ones are indeed the “proper” ones and I can’t find anything with the knurl diameter of the one I pulled...

They are 1/2”-20 studs but the head and knurl are much larger... the 4 other studs remaining on the truck look identical and all look to be fairly old, if not original to the axle shaft.

Any one else come across this?

Re: Wheel studs

Look at https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...,lug+stud,7680

They list both sizes. Looks like you need WAGNER BD60901 {#BD61239, BD61368}

Hmmm, those are listed as front, but they do look closer to what I need. I am now suspecting that the axle shafts have been swapped... everything is stamped with an “S” including the studs on both sides. Possibly Strange engineering axles?

Re: Wheel studs

I had a similar issue with finding my wheel studs. I ended up spending a good amount of time looking at various online retailers because the local auto parts store guys were helpless. RockAuto ended up having the ones I needed. I could only tell from the photo, but it ended up being an exact match.

I didn't even notice that. I guess I assumed front and rear would be the same knowing how GM likes to use commonality.

Re: Wheel studs

So; I had no luck in finding the exact replacement studs. I got some front studs which were the proper knurl diameter but the shoulder length was too long... with some careful work on the bench grinder I was able the shave enough off to make it work.

Thought I’d reply in case anyone else stumbles across this dilemma.

Still trying to figure out what axles these might be?!?
