It very well could. Try the spray test around the base of the throttle body to be sure before replacing.

Just to bring this to an end....after changing map sensor, temp sensor, throttle body gasket dist cap and rotor, this engine still would not start unless gas was squirted down carb. Removed the distributor shaft completly and replaced with one from a 1989. Ran very well but sensor indicated map sensor high. This was a new part but swapped it for the old one in the 89. Engine runs perfectly! Did timing . I know have a new truck.ha.

The bad thing is that I really cant say what was the problem but I suspect that the new ignition module was not right. Im not about to change things to recreate the problem.
