1964 stepside C10 with a 6.2

Hi all,

Im building a 64 c10 with a 6.2 L99+6L80. So the wife and I purchase the truck in 2017 because we wanted to build an old hotrod truck. Shes a big fan of step sides and found us a deal on craigslist.

The engine/trans/ecu/everything under the hood is from a salvaged 2011 camaro SS with 50k miles on it. I replaced the stock cam with a stage 1 VVT-1.2 cam, DoD delete, phaser limiter, pushrods, dual valve springs, lifters, all from Texas Speed.

The rear diff was a mess, and I knew it had to be replaced... and the price for a used 5th gen camaro subframe/diff was only $300, so I had the dumb idea of modifying the frame for independent rear suspension. I replaced the front suspension with a Fatman Fabrications bolt-in mustang 2 front end power rack and pinion.

The frame has been modified for the rear IRS, I hope it doesnt suck

I just saw a company offering a kit to put 5th gen camaro front and rear suspensions in our trucks and now I cant find it....even showed the video to my wife of guy airing up the bags on the bare black and neon green frame...

my original plan was to modify the frame to accept the full 5th gen subframe's mount points, but that would have been quite a bit more fabricating, and I would have ended up with less clearance. The way it is done now, I am pretty sure the bed floor wont have to be raised.

after responding to your other thread I came looking for your build...(your build link doesn't work for me btw)...since your using the Camaro rear diff, why not just have your driveshaft built to fit the 3 bolt hub on each end...that's the way the Camaro was setup so id think it would work just fine..the rubber dampers could be used as well...no need for a costly adapter hub...if you still have the Camaro driveshaft all youd need would be to lengthen it...would be a much cheaper alternative...

Hey mongocanfly,

I do still have the shaft, but it is a 2 piece. I would like to use a shaft with the rubber dampers, if thats a viable option. I was a little concerned about how they would hold up to the angle between the trans and the rear diff. It looks like the trans will be about 2 inches higher than the rear diff. If that is not a problem, I still need a custom shaft built, because the 2 piece shaft sounds like a terrible idea to try to get straight. I think?

im not sure how the Camaro is setup as far as driveline angle..but im betting its minimal...mine has a u-joint and hanger in the middle...so im not sure how much angle you can get by with on the rubber dampers...2 piece driveshaft is no biggie though...ill do some research on the dampers and see what I come up with..

you might contact a (good) driveshaft shop to ask this question...id suggest Dennys..extremely helpful folks there..just ask how much angle you could get out of the stock style rubbers..get a exact measurement of offset before you call....you may have to use the adapters on both ends anyway

I have searched high and low in my history and cannot find it but apparently I also saved a screenshot of it on phone. I remember its on air bags but was supposed to be full camaro front and rear suspension on stock frame.

You are correct. My shop has designed and built a kit to bolt in the Camaro IRS in to a 63-72 frame with very little cutting and no welding. We sell the kits to do just this. The photo posted is my personal chassis for my 63 GMC.

The photo of the GMC is my donor truck that will sit on top of the green chassis. The square body is another truck I built that has the Camaro IRS and Brembo brakes on all 4 corners. LS3/6L80e.

Denny’s did mine my original shaft had a u joint in the center w/a slip to get the right angle between the def and the trans the donuts are not u joints the shaft has to be at the same angle as the trans so if you won’t a one pice the dif and trans must be inline and have a slip if I’m not mistaken

draciel882, using your camaro subframe kit, did you have any wheel fitment issues with the fenders in the rear? my best estimate at total outside tire width are that they MIGHT fit under my stepside fenders... i havent been able to mock up the bed yet because i dont have a frame back there yet
