Brake release handle and rod removal?

I was working on an 86 replacing the long vent tube that connects the air conditioner box to the left lower corner vent and it would have been easier if I could have moved the pull rod on the brake release handle out of the way. How do you remove the brake release handle and rod combination from where it connects to the parking brake assembly? It looks to be push in retainer but I could not pull it out with my hand. Do I need to put a tool on and pry it out. Thanks for your help.

You don't have to remove the brake release, to get the vent tube out. I had mine out, to clean it, while I was working on the dash. But I believe there are 2 or 3 bolts that anchor it to the sidewall.

Re: Brake release handle and rod removal?

Thanks TKCR On my truck I was able to slide my tube up and back far enough to bring it with plenty of room to slide forward on to the vent. On his it would not slide back far enough. He forced it past the rod and left me straightening the end of the tube before it would go on. I'll look for the bolts next time, I was focused on the rod!
