10 pounds per 1,000 rpm's is operational on a small block chev. Is this something that has changed recently? If it hasn't changed recently and doesn't get any worse you should be fine. It just won't give you the same feeling that looking down and seeing 20psi on the dial.

so i should be alright since it idles at 500 rpm. maybe i'll get an oil cooler to drop the oil temp since the pressure goes up to 15psi after it cools down for a few miles

I was going to ask what oil you are using, and possibly suggest a weight change (stright 50 wt, or somthing along those lines)

i get to about 10 at idle after a nice long hard highway run. and im running 20w50 royal purple sythentic but this is with a stock pump from what i understand its totally normal for a sbc with a stock pump so i dont worry about it. no noise and will still peg the gauge out when the engine is first fired
