Raised AND notched bed floors?
Hello all,
Im trying to get my final metal work done on my '68 GMC C15 SWB. Ive been reading posts on raised bed floors for hours. Im wondering though, about doing something a little different. Ive already tubbed my wheel tubs about 4" per side. Im going to keep the stock metal bed floor in place, and build a small step up to clear my axle housing. Im thinking about running these "Evolve" C-notch's. https://www.avsontheweb.com/evolve-67-72-c10-notch/ So, I don't want to raise my entire floor. I want to step it over the rear axle and build a small box/step, whatever you want to call it. I want to then build a wood floor, that will open like a tonneau cover. I only want it to open from the step, to the front panel. I haven't decided on how exactly I want it to open yet, but probably will have it hinge at the front and have the outer most pieces of wood stationary. B asically a faux floor. In the front, between the notch and the front panel, I want to have my battery, air tank, compressors and a little room for tools/jumper cables, etc. Behind the notch, back to the tailgate, I don't need the wood to raise. I will not seal off between the two floors and tail gate, unless I make a door of some sort. I want to have enough room for an easy up and two or three fold up chairs. The original bed floor will be sprayed with Line-X, or the like. Wood bed floor will be finished nice, but want to be able to throw a cooler and possibly some bags/luggage, for road trips to the Git Down, Lonestar Nationals, etc. Has anyone seen a faux floor done like this? Curious about how the wood floor frame was supported. I was thinking about using some 1" square aluminium tubing and welding up basically two frames; one that extends from the header panel of the bed and extends to the front of the bridged C-notch, and another (stationary) panel that will extend from the front of the c-notch/step to the tailgate. I will likely raise my wheel tubs to the bottom of the bed rails, then figure out how much height I need for an easy-up and my air tank, and go from there. If anyone else has done something like this, I'd love to see how you tackled it. Of course, Ill post up some pictures as I make any progress. Thanks, Nik
