Location of all Zerk fittings?

My poor 72 squeaks like crazy. You can definitely hear it coming before you see it. My Haynes manual doesn't clearly list the location of all of the Zerk fittings. Can someone out there tell me where and how many I should be looking for? Thanks.

As previously mentioned, check your swaybar bushings if you've got one. Mine squeaked like crazy until I put some new bushings in.

Mike, the diagram looks correct. When these trucks rolled down the assembly line (pre robot) one guys job was to dab a spot of white paint on each place to be greased so the next guy would not miss any points. We are about to the place where we will put the white dots on our show frame and we will confirm the number of locations.
Hope that helps Paul and Jason

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

This is the top search hit for location of all zerk fittings, so I would like to revive it please. I have this same question for my 1969 CST/10. I have not found even 1 zerk fitting anywhere on the truck. I believe the previous owner may have had all of the zerks removed. If found a couple places where there is a hole and perhaps there were zerk fittings. I'm finding it hard to believe the truck would have had no zerks at all from the factory and only replacement parts have zerk fittings, but perhaps that is the case. Is there a diagram or map to where all the zerk fittings are supposed to be for a stock truck? Diagrams or pictures are really desirable because I don't know the names of all the parts, being a suspension and steering newbie.

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

Yes, thanks, I have one. It is not very good for this. Here is what little diagram there is. It would be quite nice if somebody could take pictures of their truck in the various positions where the zerks are installed, and number the pics according to the diagram. This thread would turn in to pretty good documentation.

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

That diagram you put up is perfect. It tells you what the part is called and also the general area to find them. They are not that difficult to find to be honest. Crawl under there and start looking, it's what we did prior to the internet.

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

What's a zerk fitting? Do you mean alamites?

If you don't know where the zerks are and don't have a road map, just look at all the areas under the truck that spin or pivot, or just think about what would need lubrication that isn't inside a case, like engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, or steering box. In other words, anything that takes fluid lube. Driveshafts spin, front ends turn, and bell cranks... crank. < There's one people often overlook. They need lubrication.

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

Thanks all, I am finding them and learning the part names. There are zerks missing but there are holes, so I will get a zerk multitool and some zerks and install.

Questions:

I have found no evidence of a zerk or hole for one, and also no large boot for grease at these places. Is that normal, or am I just not finding it?
1. Pitman arm to center link pivot
2. Idler arm to center link pivot
3. Idler arm to idler arm support pivot

Is there a bell crank somewhere on the truck?

In the illustration and chart above where it says "Intermediate Steering Shaft (PA10)" does the PA10 mean some other type of vehicle, not a C10 so I don't need to worry about that one?

Re: Location of all Zerk fittings?

Manual shift trucks have a bell crank... frame to ball stud on block.

Newbie question, I didn't see where on the steering shaft or steering gear that I need to hit, on my '68 that has power steering.
