Mini starter swap question

For those who’re using a mini starter, did you fill in this gap?

Re: Mini starter swap question

I have not used a mini starter; but yes; you should find a way to close that gap. That opening only invites trouble in the future. Rocks, dirt, dust, and especially if you ever drive it in a muddy condition. Just my 2 cents. Make a small block off plate out of any thin piece of metal.

Re: Mini starter swap question

If you use a GM mini starter off a later GM you don't have to worry about that. I'm not a fan of those aftermarket starters as they seem to be one of those things that guys on every board have problems with. Their "universal fit" often equates to sloppy fit.

As far as a fix I think I would just cut a patch that fits reasonably well and pop rivet it on so I could remove it later if case need be.

Re: Mini starter swap question

My OEM (I think) starter had a little "L" shaped piece of black plastic to cover that opening.

I'll see if I can find it for a pic.
