2005 3500 driveshaft support bearing
Hi guys,
I'm working on a 2005 3500 4x4 DRW. I've got a vibration starting at 65 mph, the tires have checked out ok, and I've moved to the driveshaft. Someone has changed the center support bearing recently (I just bought the truck this year) with a cheap Anchor parts store special. It's not installed very well, as the sleeve that the bellows attaches to is loose and flopping around. The support is the kind that has the spacer under it, bringing the centerline to 2.6 vs the 2.2 other supports have. I've found a lot of info about which part numbers are correct, and I've gone through the Spicer catalog to find the differences. The one difference I find is that some have a spacer and others don't. The truck sits pretty high from the factory, but I'm not sure whether it is supposed to have that spacer on it or not. Thanks for any input! John

Re: 2005 3500 driveshaft support bearing
I figured I'd update this in case anyone runs into this same situation. Dana/Spicer shows 3 of these assemblies as having the same bearing, but with different options. One shows as having no spacer and no studs; one has studs, but no spacer; and the third (212032-1x) has both spacer and studs. One set of instructions I found said to reuse the spacer and studs from the old support bearing to use on the new one. I chose to buy the third hanger bearing assembly so I got new spacer and studs already installed on it. The price difference wasn't much so it made sense to buy it all new. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.
Just a note: a few of the manufacturers show a 35 mm bearing as an option. According to my research, there is no such thing for the 2500/3500 series Duramax trucks. It should be a 40 mm bearing. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion on the driveshaft u joints and hanger bearings, since a couple different manufacturers made them for GM. Mine is a Spicer, others are AAM. You have to check your truck to make sure you order the right parts.
