The plug that goes in an externally regulated alternator (I don't know the name), it looks like it doesn't fit on my alternator correctly. I'm wondering where I could locate a correct fitting plug/harness. I've looked in part stores but haven't found any. Or if it comes down to it...could I just cut off that plug and put on a female connector for each wire? Would there be any harm in doing that? Here's a pic to explain what I'm talking about...the plug is really loose and will sometimes just fall off.

you could put spade connectorss on there, just make sure they have insulators to stop them from hitting anything, or you can hit the junkyard up and see if you can find anything there, just the pre internal regulator setup, or better yet put an internal regulator setup on there and be done with it. You will also be able to put a higher amp alt on for the ignition and halogen headlights.

If you can locate another plug, perhaps from a doner vehicle at a junk yard, you can take a small flat object, such as a very small screw driver that you would use to repair eye glasses, slide it into the backside of the plug on each wire and release each terminal from the bad plug, then snap the connectors back into the new plug. This way you won't be cutting and splicing any wires.

just looking closely at pics. niticed that on the "R" side there is something keeping plug from going all the way in & latching. see the damage to plastic in the 3rd pic?

ah yes, thanks for noticing that. Turns out the male connectors on the alt. had been going in on the wrong side of the female connectors and it wouldn't go in far enough to latch. Problem solved, thanks lol.
