pulleys again
I think I have the wrong water pump pulley? I bought a used 307 engine and the water pump pulley was just sitting on the pump. now I am attempting to install the belt and the crank pulley is about 1/8 inch set back compared to the water pump pulley. I pulled the crank pulleys off and they look original, they are stamped 44043bagm and 51232bbgm. what would be a matching water pump pulley part number? this engine has the short water pump and is running power steering. thanks for any help

Re: pulleys again
I don't think a 307 came with a short water pump.

Re: pulleys again
well if that is true I have an even bigger mess to deal with? the waterpump that came on the engine was the short pump and had signs of leakage so I bought a new one. so do you think I if buy a long water pump all the pulleys will work?

Re: pulleys again
Take the new pump back to the parts store and set a long water pump next to it for comparison.

Re: pulleys again
My 69 short step with its factory 307 certainly did.
OP didn't say what motor was out of but I would think Google would be a good source of part #'s for pulleys and figuring out what he has versus what he needs.

Re: pulleys again
Just my 2 cents. That pully shaft is just a pressed fit so it could be out or in to far. I got a shorty for my 327 and had the same problem, so I put it in a vise and pressed it in a little. If it's in to far you might need to get creative to pull it out.

Re: pulleys again
I had exactly the same problem when i swapped in a 350 for my worn out 307. It was a short water pump on the 307. Swapped the pulleys over to the 350 and the crank pulley was in about 1/8". I checked and the alternator and water pump were in perfect alignment. I ended up buying a spacer from speedway. Works perfectly now.

Re: pulleys again
Like this. Don't forget that you may need longer bolts as a result.

Re: pulleys again
I considered doing that, however the pulley on the water pump has a narrow space at the rear and if moved back it may contact the water pump. I was hoping somone had an old part catalog that could confirm the part numbers needed to make the whole set up work.
