Re: front wheel well 73-80 vs 81-87
The entire front fender, and hood is different, nothing interchanges between the 73-80 Front clip, and 81-87 front clip, except hood ornaments. Wheel wells would likely be of similar depth, since the front suspension design remained the same.

Re: front wheel well 73-80 vs 81-87
You can get a 81-87 passenger side inner wheel well to fit a 73-80 fender. Learned this after an old style 'you can't go back there' salvage yard sold me the newer style for my 75 many years ago. Naturally there was a 'all sales final' policy.
After a bit of cussing, got it to fit. Most of the holes will line up. Had to drill a couple new ones. The battery tray support is in a different and lower spot. Good enough for a functional replacement but not for a show quality fix up. Guessing the driver's side is similar but haven't had to test that. |

The shape is slightly different an 73-80 inner will give you a little more room than an 81-87. The inners you can swap around between years like mentioned above you just might have to drill or open up some holes.
