Re: Three 3/4 ton caps.

Hey guys, quick question: What is the difference in model year between the caps in this posting with the orange bowtie, and caps with the blue bowtie? My '70 C20 came with three blues and one orange. Thanks!

Re: Three 3/4 ton caps.

Yellow is 73 and up. Caps are the same otherwise. But the blue ones I believe are convex at the bow and the yellow are concave at the bow

Re: Three 3/4 ton caps.

The caps with blue bow ties are usually Chrome over brass and tend to split around the edges. They are original to 69 through 72 trucks The caps with the yellow bow tie are usually stainless steel. They came off of 73 through 77 trucks.

Re: Three 3/4 ton caps.

Blue is for 69-72 and those are chrome as southernparts mentioned.
They yellow ones are stainless and were 73-75 only.
Although I have seen a handful of convex yellow bow ties, they aren't common - so yes, generally speaking, blues are convex and yellows concave.
Krylon "True Blue" is the best match I've found if attempting to make 73-75 caps look like 69-72 caps (other than the whole convex/concave difference).
Stainless can be nicely polished and are much less prone to splitting on the edges as mentioned.
