Straight exhaust pipe on an inline 6 to much?
Any of you inline 6 guys running straight exhaust (no muffler) to the rear bumper? I know a inline 6 sounds good like this, but is it TO loud. Or what else are you running that you are happy with?

>>I know a inline 6 sounds good like this,<<
Personally, I like a 6 cylinder, but I hate that raspy-ass sound. I have headers, an H-pipe, two mufflers in front of the axle and exit behind the rear tire. The H-pipe crossover is curved to allow for the same stagger as the headers and is still at 90* entry to the pipes. The mufflers have the same stagger. It is quieter that I really wanted, but doesn't have that raspy sound. |

If you have no neighbors and don't mind being pulled over by the authorities occasionally, and don't mind having loss of hearing at an early age then it's fine, but otherwise not so much.

I did this on a competitor brand truck that I own. I liked it, it didn't seem unreasonably loud and to me sounded kind of like an old tractor rumbling down the road.

Re: Straight exhaust pipe on an inline 6 to much?
I've had a couple straight piped trucks. They sound neat.
Not too loud as long as the pipe is ran all the way back. They cackle when you let off the gas, it's fun ( if that's what you're into). You could always add a mullfer later, if you decide you don't like the noise. just my $.02 I ran my Shovelhead Harley with straight pipes, for 15 years, THAT WAS LOUD!!! Quote:

Seriously I don't think it could be louder than my wife's sbc truck with glass pack exhaust that ends shortly past the cab, since I plan to run it all the way out the back

If you like the sound of the straight pipe but want it a little more on the quiet side look up Car Chemistry. I have them on two of my trucks and work great and a lot less money than a muffler.
