Need larger wheel size help!!!
first off I have a ECE 4-6 drop on my 68 short fleet 2wd with disc brakes I was looking at 18x8 for the front. Come to find out they qiut making them in the 18x8" and now only offer it in the 18x9 with 5 1/2 BSM, will this work on the front? Is it to wide? (big)? The rear is a little differnt and so I just have a backspace Question. I wanted to use the 18x9 in the rear. My disc brake ford 9" is 1" wider than the 71-72 style rear and so I need to find out roughly what backspacing I should use any ideas? Here is the wheel Boss 304

To my knowledge the front backspacing should be about 1/2 of the rim size, so an 8 inch rim would have a 4 inch backspace to keep the loads off of the bearings. So, your front with a 9 inch should be approx 4.5 inches to keep it close.
The rear, I have seen 5.5 inch backspacing on stock rearend withs with problems with frame interference, so most suggest a 4.5 backspace on a 9.5 inch rim. This is what I will be purchasing when the time comes to buy. But since your rear is one inch wider than stock, the 5.5 may just be right on the money or close to it. the only way I know of to properly do this is to either mount rims that are similar (width/backspacing) or use one of those nice wheel measuring devices (the actual name slips my mind) at a tire store or a borrowed one.

This is also driving me nuts! I have 24.5X9.5 " tires on my front right now and they don't rub! I have a 26X8" spare and that don't rub!
I am going with the Weld velocity 6 rim but can't decide on the size! 18x8.5 or 17X 8.5 or God knows! I want 4 the same wheels with a overall size of 25X8-9" They make this way to difficult! The rim guys should send out template wheels of plastic or something so you can try it out before they ship $2500 in wheels across the country! AND THEN THE BACK SPACING ISSUE! Anybody solved the rim buying experience?

Ya, I know what you mean. I remember I saw somthing that would work for this but it was expensive. Think it was mount mate or somthing like that.
The dealers should have one at every store.

Anyone know what that thing was called that you could mount a tire that you wanted to use on, then mount it to your rig then slide it around to check your fitment dimensions for your new wheels.
It was made out of aluminum and expandable from 13" to 20" wheels went from a 6" rim width to 12" and you could slide it in and out with the tire on it to get the offset and backspace right. It had all the measurements right on it. I think i seen it in one of the Mags.
