Window Crank Removal
Can anyone tell me how to remove the window crank and door handle from the inside of a 1953 Chevy 3100? Do the use the funny shaped U-clip like later model GM vehicles or is there a different method? I figure that before I just get in there and start messing around I should at least have an idea what I'm messing with. Thanks!

Theres a clip in there...if you push in on the door panel it makes it easier to see...

Re: Window Crank Removal
If the last guy put the clip on right you should be able to slide the door handle clip tool straight behind the handle and get the clip off. I've fought a couple of them that someone put the clip on backwards for some reason and that will make you cus a bit before you figure it out.
At one time I had door handles with set screws on my truck but think that they were aftermarket (custom) handles and not stock handles. That was 45 years ago though.

Re: Window Crank Removal
my '49 has set screws in the door handles. all the vendors I just looked at - classic parts, brothers etc all show new handles with set screws. they are behind the lever in the body of the handle. id look there first.

Re: Window Crank Removal
If yours are the type with set screws, there are actually two screws per handle - one set screw and one jam screw on top of that. It can be confusing because you can remove the jam screw and the handle still won't come off because there's still a set screw under that.

Re: Window Crank Removal
My memory from 1973 was right then. Yep the jam screw comes out and hopefully doesn't get lost. and then you loosen the set screw that holds the handle to the shaft.
