removin paint off Door panels - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

my door panels were painted at one time befor I bought it, anyone have a idea how to clean them up because it is pealing and cracking, I need them to be dark gray for when I put them back in the truck so what do you use to change the color and needing it to last a long time???????

Are your panels plastic or steel?

PLASTIC. I have never delt with removing paint from plastic so this is why I was looking for suggestions

there is a paint remover i use from Kragen auto parts. i can`t remember the name of it but you spray it on and it makes the paint bubble up. there is a picture of what happens to the paint on the can. i thought i had a old can laying around but i guess i tossed it. it works great but i have`nt used it on plastic but i don`t think it will hurt it as long as you wash it off really good.

just make sure whatever you use wont eat up plastic!

I was going to suggest laccquer thinner but it might not take the paint off depending on what kind and how long its been on there.

EZ-Off oven cleaner should do it. I have removed paint from plastic models this way for years. If your not sure, try it on the backside first.
