HO72 coating brakes with gear lube. Help!
I have replaced the seals several times, the breather is not clogged and I really don't notice a grove on the axle tube.
It seems to do it when its worked hard. I would rather try to save this before I go to the 14 bolt conversion trouble. Any ideas?

Re: HO72 coating brakes with gear lube. Help!
I would try speedy sleeve and check how tight the seal fits .
on heavy trucks they come with a wear ring that is changed when the seal is changed and the smaller axles don't and they should . I wen through this with my 52 Chevy one ton |

What kind of shape are the bearings in? If it leaks after hauling a load I'd say that would be the place to start checking.

Re: HO72 coating brakes with gear lube. Help!
The general consensus so far from the axle world is that the HO72 is not heavy duty enough for my application and does not hold enough fluid, its getting hot and that is what is taking my seals out. That would make sense as I don't have any troubles empty and it only does it when I have a heavy load on the truck.

Make certain that your bearings are adjusted properly. If they have enough tolerance, under load they can move far enough apart to let the axle rise and lose sealing. It doesn't take much.
