Lock cylinder removal with no Key?
How do you go about removing the lock cylinder on the column from a 79 truck column with no key? I suppose I might as well ask if there is a difference between tilts and non tilts also... would like to know both ways if there different.
I read this posted link on a typical type answer, but you would still need a key with this manner of disassembly. So I dont think it will work without a key. I got a parts truck with no keys. Need to unlock steering coulmn to move it around.... but I got it running now also... so would like to drive it around besides push or tow it. Beats trying to drive it with a busted column... a set of vice grips for a steering wheel and messing around with the constant stalling and starting of a parts beater. LOL http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/steering.html Thanx, Rod

remove the steering wheel, the lockplate, and the TS switch. there is a screw that holds it in. no key needed.

The 79 column does not have a screw like whats in the posted link above... so I couldn't do it that way. Still in that linked post you had to have the cylinder in the run position for it to come out also. Must be another way.
I'll eventually grab a tilt coulmn in my travels to the scrap yards... but if I find another column wih no key, I would still like to know how to get it out. Rod
