Parking brake nightmare!!!

I made a total newbie mistake and threw out all my old drum parking brake components. I assumed I would easily be able to replace the parts. I know, I'm a idiot. I have found new parking brake levers and brake shoe guides but I can not for the life of me find any parking brake lever pivot pins. Do you guys know where I can find a set? Length? Diameter? Got any pictures? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

i have a set of hardware and backing plates from a 87 c-10 305/700r4 and it had 56" rear springs and JB5 brake code on the spid sheet . the shoes were 2.75" wide and drum was just over 11" dia .

i tossed the reg stuff you get in a hardware kit or adjuster kit but kept the cable arm's to shoe and brake bar and wheel cylinder to shoe pins and backing plates .

Always good to hang onto that stuff. I pull the whole backer plate brakes-n drums-n-all when I swap axles but mine tend to be full floater 14bolt axles.

U-Line sells toe tags with wire twisties to attach em in bulk.
Run the twisty through a bolt hole and write what they came off before they go on the shelf. My heirs won't have as much trouble identifying stuff that way.

No luck with salvage yards. These poor trucks just rust away to nothing in the IL humidity. Talked with my local Chevy dealer and they seems to think they can order the correct parking brake lever and pin. I might be saved. Guess we will find out tomorrow.

he is looking for the park brake arm just below #2 that shows the brake shoes but the arm is not dark black so its not available from lmc at least .

Expensive mistake.

LH & RH 1984 GM CK Parking brake lever kits are 15594177 & 15594178

You probably need the star wheel... 21, 22, & 23 from the GM illustration.
Likely you need the brake adjuster arm parts 9 & 10. Part numbers are in subsection 5.103
Sounds like you found the strut #12 but you are probably missing #13
I'd be willing to bet the spring kit doesn't have #25 either.

This is correct. 15504177 is the left one and it is readily available and I found that one easily. 15504178 is the right one and its discontinued and has been really difficult to find.

If I'm reading the books correctly you can find any 1984 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck with 11" & 11-5/32" brake shoes and the levers marked #7 in the illustration should be the same. What this means is the 11" lever Carter has should fit if it's from a 1984 truck.

The #9 & #10 adjuster levers get a little more brake/axle type specific.
The parts books will tell you what rigs can be cannibalized for the parts you need.

I've gotten really good at parking on sidehills, running a front wheel up against a bank, or just shutting it off in gear

You need to look at the 85-91 books.
Take a clipboard with yellow legal paper and a pencil and write down the part numbers you're looking for. Then peruse the 73-78 & 79-84 parts books to see whether the part number you need was used on the older trucks. Write down each year and options that used that part number. Having all six volumes makes it fairly easy to tell what rigs to cannibalize at the yard and write em down on your yellow paper.
It may be worth looking over all four GMT400 parts books as well. GM used the same rear axles in those. Good possibility they are donors too.

GM dealer ordered in the left and a pair from a 86-91 for me. The left was perfect, the right was discontinued, and the parts for the 86-91 were to small. I have searched all my local salvage yards and there is not even one cannibal truck in my area. I even called some classic truck salvage yards in TX and no one had a right. One guy said maybe but wanted to charge me $75 just to look. Finding the right has been a real booger.
