Gas filler neck install - quick and dry
I got the idea to install the grommet with a string after installing a windshield in my other truck.
You need to hold the grommet from the outside and guide it along the curvature of the cab as you pull the string. I installed this one in about 1 or 2 minutes. |

Yup. That's going to be the challenge for us with the Jimmy we are painting with the filler installed. It was hard enough getting the old one out!

I'm curious to see how that would work too.

If you do a search, lots of guys have done it, chose the good quality rubber grommet to start.

Re: Gas filler neck install - quick and dry
I would suggest you remove the neck to get full paint coverage under the neck's mounting flange. Since painting is an attempt at corrosion resistance you want to cover all of it. It's on'y a few screws and some hose clamps. On a Blazer/Jimmy I would remove the neck first, remove grommet, paint, install grommet, install neck. Same as a truck, just a neck rather than the whole tank.

Re: Gas filler neck install - quick and dry
Just replaced mine last week, had it in the glove box for a good 6 months or so. Used a razor knife to get the old dried up one out, and after several attempts and some very choice words I finally decided I was using too much lube since it would pop out as fast as I could push it in.
I wiped it down, used minimal lube, and it went in, not easy but got er done., And yes buy a good one... I think mine came from GMC Paul's the good one made in U.S.A. |
