NP241c
Is anyone running a NP241 in their 1st gen blazer? I have 1 out of a 1990 k5 that I’m thinking about running behind an nv4500 in my 70 k5. I believe it will bolt right up - after I change the input from 27 to 32 spline. Since the 241 is much longer than the typical 205 that most blazers have, will the extra length be an issue with the short wheelbase blazer?

Re: NP241c
I haven't gotten that far yet but I have started gathering the components to swap my '70 to an LS1/4L60E/241C.....
I bought a kit for the 241C to eliminate the slip yoke.... it will shorten it somewhat and allow me to use a double cardan joint at the front... I don't anticipate any issues with this combo I don't plan on doing any serious off-roading....so the 241C will be fine..although not as robust.....it has a deeper ratio than the NP205..... 2.72:1 vs 1.96:1 I kinda mocked it up with an empty transmission for some preliminary fitment

Your set up looks like it will be a lot of fun. Have you done an LS swap before? |

Re: NP241c
I haven't done one on a K/5 yet....I'm planning on getting it going as a fall/winter project

Re: NP241c
A few years of NP205 were 32 spline and round pattern like a 4x4 NV4500. You'd need the short input or a spacer for the long input. I'm pretty sure there are adaptors to bolt the figure-8 205 to the 4500 as well. In that case a 32 spline input and machining of the 205 case are needed.

Re: NP241c
I run an NP208c in mine, which is similar in size. My complete drivetrain is LQ4 / 4L65e / Novak adapter / NP208c.
The adapter between trans and t-case for me goes from 6 bolt hex to 4 bolt early style output (basically makes the new 4L65e "look" like a 700R4/early 4L60e in length and bolt pattern, but includes a VSS that I needed). I have a 4" lift and found that a stock 80s rear driveshaft fit pretty good in the rear... BUT at drop, the angle was enough to start binding the U-joints. In the end, I had a new CV joint shaft built and cut/welded the perches to rotate the rear pinion in line with the shaft. 1000 miles later, all good. If I was stock height or a 2" lift, I think the 80s blazer shaft would have been OK. Disclaimer: I found that my rear axle originally doesn't go to my truck (a 71 Jimmy).. the perches were poorly welded on, the gears weren't set up right or shimmed and the pinion nut wasn't torqued/locktited. The brakes are HD 11-5/32" x 2.75" so I'm thinking this came from a truck? |
