OEM Vs Aftermarket (Brothers bumpers and tailgate)

Need a new tailgate and front/back bumpers.

I am looking at the smoothy chrome. It makes me nervous because chrome isnt what it used to be back in the day. I have seen so many examples of a new 'chrome' aftermarket part turning to rust or start pealing in less than a year, even with decent care.

The question is:
How good is the chrome on the Brothers bumpers?
The truck will be kept in a garage.
I am painting the truck anyway so its no issue going painted if the chrome is so-so.

Also....

The brothers tailgate....

I can buy a decent tailgate on CL for the same money as the Brothers aftermarket. How is the quality of the Brothers piece in comparison to OEM

Tks,

~JH

Re: OEM Vs Aftermarket (Brothers bumpers and tailgate)

A few months ago I bought a new tailgate and front bumper for my truck. they both seem to be good, no issues at least for me. My tailgate was extremely bowed due to bales of hay being dropped on it when dad owned it. At first the bumper seemed like it had sanding marks under the chrome, but after going over it with chrome polish, looks great.

My .02 - If you can find a good used OEM grab it and prep it real well before painting.

My truck had an aftermarket non lettered tailgate when I bought it and it seems fine. I will need to check it real carefully to verify no issues with it.

I want to buy a Chevrolet lettered tailgate so I am subscribed for more information.

The high end/reconditioned Goodmark bumpers are really nice. I have two of them and am really happy with them.

Re: OEM Vs Aftermarket (Brothers bumpers and tailgate)

Problem with these products and looking at them in how good they are is this:

Do you have 50 years of wear and tear in real world conditions of daily driving to compare anyone's new product too?

The answer of course is no. So initially I would support someone like GMCPaul, he tends to be more selective of whom he deals with.

Re: OEM Vs Aftermarket (Brothers bumpers and tailgate)

I got my front bumper off of ebay. The chrome is still good after a year out side. The fitment is pritty good to. It was made in tiwan. So that just comes to show that just because it's expensive and has a lot of buz words in the dicription does not mean it's good.

Re: OEM Vs Aftermarket (Brothers bumpers and tailgate)

I believe brothers gets all their aftermarket body panels from dynacorn. I ordered both front fenders from them and it’s hard to tell the difference between the new ones and what came off the truck (aside from the old fenders looked like crumpled up Swiss cheese). It’s should boil down to how much work you want to do, either fix an oem tailgate or shell out the cash for a repop. As for their bumpers I have no clue and I wanna see what they look like if you get them
