Voltage Regulator

Hello all need some help. I have a newer alternator on the truck ('70 K20 4X4) with a voltage reg. built in, I am also running the one on the radiator support. Now its charging fine but the alt. is puttin out about 1amp more than the battery is taking. My gage is maxed to the right of the "C" when driving and just before the "C" when at idle with AC, Lights, and fan on. The wiring at the alt is Red wire to battery / amp gage (radio side), and connection has a blue and white where the blue goes to the amp gage (fender side), not sure where the white wire goes. At the connection the blue wire is split to 2 wires to go into the alt with the white by itself. Is this the way the orig connection was if so I will just get another alt. I suppose, unless there is a way to bypass one or the other.
