Firewall insulation
I am getting the cab insulated (fat mat) and am thinking about an alternative to the cardboard/jute insulating mat that was factory. Neoprene wet suit type material would be great with the fat mat underneath and I think would look good.
I have seen adhesive neoprene, but it looks like foam rather than the stuff they would make a wet suit out of. Anyone try this alternative type material to the original stuff? I filled all the holes and would have to glue down the original type so think about something else |

Re: Firewall insulation
This is how I got my 51 cab whisper quiet and heat free:
I rolled the entire cab with fat mat/ duramat. If you have not already done so- do the roof and large pieces inside interior of doors too. These cabs are like a metal beer can without all of the extra help. They drone like crazy if not insulated. I did this along with 2 extra layers of carpet insulation plus the carpet and the carpets backing insulation so 3 total layers of insulation. I used the firewall insulation piece from National Parts Depot. plus i rolled the firewall with fatmat/ dynomat. This is the OEM style piece. IT has 1/2 of insulation on the backside and the shiny rubber frontside. Honestly you can barely see this firewall insulation the cab complete AC in etc. . Its black and very suttle.

Re: Firewall insulation
No glue on the firewall insulation. on mine it just wedged up in there. All of the pieces that bolt to the firewall held it in place. AC, fuse box etc etc then bolts through it to hold it tightly.
