Does any body know the way to ID the front half of the OEM driveshaft on a 58 chevy 1/2 ton?

Thnx I.A.

Robert, there's no such thing on a 58.

It is a 58 long wheel base. Did that not come with a 2 piece driveshaft?

Re: Info please?

Driveshafts use somewhat generic parts...what exactly are you looking for?

No, they were a single piece shaft.

I wanted to make sure i ID it correctly. I plan to sell it on the Big Bay. I do not want to mislead someone with the wrong info.

Re: Info please?

Well they list a center support for a 58 Truck. two styles in fact.

All I can say from there is take clear and concise photos, do some exacting measurements ( photograph it with a tape measure alongside it) and set your reserve at what you absolutely have to have.

My ongoing truck projects:
48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

The long wheel base must have a 2 piece driveshaft. They have a carrier bearing support. Single drive shafts have no need for a carrier bearing.

I used the Rock auto cheat sheet. they didn't list the U joints but showed the two different center supports for a 58. I'm thinking in line bolts is light duty and side by side is heavy duty.

Re: Info please?

Side note: Way back in the dark ages of the 70's (yes I am old) I built a T bucket with a 283 and cast iron power glide and used the front half of the driveshaft of the donor rig (chevy car) as my driveshaft. I positioned the engine to be able to use it.

Still no matter how mundane you think some part is there always seems to be that guy who just flat needs that part if your description and measurements are spot on.

Re: Info please?

and not trying to pour cold water on it but brand new driveshaft parts and repair are fairly cheap and many different models and manufactures use the same brand parts..probably as cheap or cheaper than selling and shipping a part
