Second dome light

Has anyone added a second dome light in the rear area? My Burb has one mounted to the rear a/c housing. It's the large round RV style you see in the lighting section of a parts store (not real cool). I'd like to replace it with an original style dome light, but it would require cutting a hole in the a/c housing as the light is raised in the middle. Any opinions (don't cut, go for it, etc.)?

We are installing a second light just in front of the rear AC unit in my son's 72 Burb. (I would not cut the AC housing if it is good!) We are installing the same type of light as the original. The mounting bracket will be hand made to match the the stock one and we have the wiring out of a truck for the bulb socket.

Well it's already done. I figured since there were already holes drilled in the AC shroud for the previous light, that the original type light should go there (it covers the old holes). I only had to cut one small hole, and I think the end result is really nice.

My only complaint is that with the original light, the housing area above the light bulb is open. So when the bulb comes on, some light shines inside the AC shroud. I've been trying to think of a way to cover the open area in the housing. I was going to use some tape, but didn't think it could take the heat generated by the bulb. Any suggestions?

I would look at the possibility of using aluminum foil.

I thought there might be an obvious solution that I hadn't thought of! I'm going to try that. Thanks Jim.
