01 8.1 dreaded oil pressure sensor
2003 Burb 2500 8.1
Does anyone have any pointers/tricks/solid know how on how the heck to get to the oil pressure sending unit on a 8.1? Sitting way on the back of the engine near the bell housing on an 8.1 leaves little room to work or even see it. I've seen a few things online stating the having child like hands helps but not much else. Doesn't help that I'm half bear. |

Re: 01 8.1 dreaded oil pressure sensor
When I had to replace the one on the 6.0L in my '06 Silverado, I had to use 2 extensions and a wobble with a special socket on my 3/8" ratchet to remove and replace the sending unit. i used some masking tape to hold the new sending unit in the socket and CAREFULLY threaded it into the hole (there was no way in hell I was getting my paw in there). I also set up 2 different mirrors at different angles so I could see what the heck I was doing.
I'm half bear as well... Gary

Re: 01 8.1 dreaded oil pressure sensor
I know what you mean.
6'5" and hands the size of medium size dinner plates doesn't lend itself to getting my paddies into some of these spaces that were made for more diminutive men. My size is why I drive a pickup and a fullsize car. I used to drive A1 chassis VW Diesel Rabbits. I had to mod the seat tracks so they slid back far enough that my Knees didn't hit the dash and steering wheel. My brothers were amused by the reactions to my unfolding from the drivers seat of those rigs.

Thanks for the replies guys. Good for a belly chuckle. If I figure out a way to make this simple repair easier I'll post it up.
May have to throw the wife or kids up on the engine to see if they can reach their hand down there. lol |
